Moreton Bay Bug

Thenus parindicus


Eyes at extreme edge of broad flattened head; legs with darker longitudinal stripes. To 250 mm. (Previously called Thenus orientalis but that species is restricted to Asian region).


Also called Flathead Lobster or Shovel-nosed Lobster. They are found over muddy-sand bottoms in inshore waters to about 60 m depth. Northern Australia; Indian Ocean west to Pakistan. A second species with spotted legs (Thenus australiensis) occurs on sandier bottoms north of Fraser I.
