Horse Caravan

This typical Melbourne furniture van was later converted to a caravan for holidays. The original canvas roof was replaced by metal in the 1960s. It is fitted with a pole for two horses.

Dark green and black body with red lining; Indian red undercarriage and roof; bright red wheels with black and white lining.

A convenient vehicle which found a number of uses other than as a furniture van. Fitted with improvised seating, it could carry up to 30 picnickers on day trips to trade picnics. Many businesses converted furniture vans for this use on Sundays.

This vehicle was bought from Melbourne to Toowoomba in the early 1950s. (Bolton Collection)
