Drop Shaft Sulky c1910

The vehicle has sarven hubs, mudguards and a brake. The dash board and seat backing are made of clear varnished silky oak timber with white and beige lining.

The black body has red and beige lining while the undercarriage is red with black and beige lining.

A brake is rarely found on such small vehicles as these sulkies which rely on the breeching of the horse for stopping.  This vehicle was made by Nock & Johnson of Brisbane and used by a local mailman in the Pinkenba area.  The brake ensured the vehicle stopped right next to the mailbox, and the mailman did not have to leave his seat.
